Break

Title and context :
The title 'Pause' refers to a moment of reflection and tranquillity, a suspension in time where you can refocus and reconnect with yourself. I wanted to capture this notion of calm and contemplation through an abstract composition that invites introspection. In this work, I also incorporated the idea of three children, symbolising the innocence, purity and simplicity of pausing moments in childhood.

Colours and Emotions

Colour palette :
I used a soothing colour palette, dominated by shades of blue, green and grey, with touches of pale pink. The blue and green evoke serenity and nature, while the grey adds a dimension of neutrality and calm. The touches of pink add a subtle softness and warmth.

Atmosphere :
The overall atmosphere of the work is serene and contemplative. I wanted the viewer to feel a sense of calm and pause when observing this composition. The soft colours and flowing shapes create a harmonious, balanced atmosphere.

Techniques and textures

Technical :
For this painting, I used dripping, paint layering and scraping techniques to create varied and interesting textures. The layers of paint and drips symbolise the passage of time and the fluidity of thought during a moment's pause. Areas of denser colour contrast with lighter spaces, adding depth and movement to the work.

Forms and Symbolism:
Abstract shapes and geometric patterns symbolise the different facets of reflection and tranquillity. Curved lines and flowing shapes represent free-flowing thoughts, while more rigid angles and shapes symbolise moments of clarity and structure in the thinking process. At the centre of the composition, I've incorporated blurred silhouettes of three children, symbolising the innocence and simplicity of childhood. These figures add a human and narrative dimension to the work, recalling the moments of pause and play during childhood.

Message

With 'Pause', I wanted to express the idea that taking a moment to refocus and reflect is essential for our mental and emotional well-being. The inclusion of the three children in the work reinforces the message of the simplicity and purity of pausing, reminding us of the importance of these quiet moments in our daily lives. My aim was to create a work that invites the viewer to stop, relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.

In summary, 'Pause' is a work that uses soothing colours and flowing forms to capture the essence of tranquillity and reflection. My hope is that the viewer will feel transported into a state of calm and introspection, inspired by the beauty and simplicity of a moment's pause, while being touched by the subtle presence of the three children who bring a dimension of purity and innocence to the work.
